Lushan Stone Carving Museum

  Located at No. 29, Hexi Road, East Valley of Kuling, Lushan Stone Carving Museum covers 1800 m2 , with beautiful environment, convenient transportation and good location. The building of the museum is one of the typical old villas in Lushan.

  Through exibiting pictures, interpretations and some originals, Lushan Stone Carving Museum explains profound history and culture of Lushan, which not only spreads the matic knowledge but also provides travelling guidance to visitors.

  庐山，作为“人文圣山”的理由，在于她深厚的历史文化以其独特的方式融汇于具有突出价值的自然美之中。阅读庐山，最不可忽略的是她几乎无可媲美的石刻遗产。然而，庐山石刻星罗棋布，非经年累月，踏遍青山，无以尽览。庐山石刻博物馆摭华集萃，乾坤挪移，将散布在大山各处的石刻精品以图文和全息手段陈于一室，领您步入庐山文化的深处……

  Lushan was entitled a sacred mountain because of its profound history and culture in its unique way to integrate with the outstanding value of the natural beauty.  Stone carvings , as some of the most marvelous heritages in Lushan, are a way to understand Lushan that can’t be neglected. The stone carvings are scattered everywhere in the Lushan Mountain, so it is impossible to visit all of them in a short time. Lushan Stone carvings Museum collected samples of typical and meaningful stone carvings distributed in the mountain and displayed them with pictures and interpretations. Wandering through the museum,  visitors will step in the depth of Lushan culture.

Brief Introduction

  庐山现存的各类石刻多达1300余通，可分为摩崖、碑刻、墓志、塔铭、建筑附属刻铭五类，以摩崖和碑刻居多。庐山石刻存储了丰富的历史文化信息，是“人文圣山”最直观生动的诠释。

  There are over 1300 existing stone insciptions in Lushan, which consists of five types(cliff carvings, tablet carvings, tombstone carvings, pagoda carvings and carvings about buildings). The majority are stone cliff carvings and tablet carvings. These stone carving exhibits abundant historical and cultural information, which is the intuitive and vivid interpretation of the sacred mountain.

  Important events carved on the stone became the most durable and most dignified historical record, which was hidden in this famous mountain and handed down from generation to generation. Meeting a piece of stone carving in Lushan, perhaps it means you come across a legend through a period of history.

  万千景象一语涵

  庐山之景，步移景换，千变万化，各尽其妙。会心之时，似若有所悟；欲名其状，往往无以言达。此时，一方石刻撞入，寥寥数语，即感眼前景致，一指点活。

  Scenery in Lushan is changeable in different areas and times，which is difficult to express feelings.  At the certain time, several words in a piece of stone freeze the scenery there.

  Nature enlightens human’s thoughts and wisdoms, hence the mountains and waters landscape become a natural wonder book. The amazing, unique, fantastic and changeable landscape in Lushan are sources for people to experience, meditate and express emotions.

  顽石说法绽其旨

  庐山是六大宗教与各学说和谐共生的栖息地，是名符其实的神仙之庐、宗教之山、儒学之地。佛号、经录、禅思、玄览、劝善、布道……石头上的法门，各异其旨，各展其趣。

  There are six religions and different doctrines, which coexist harmoniously in Lushan, The stone carvings indicate different religious cultures and doctrines.

明誓

Making Oaths

  丹心一片照江崖

  “丹青著明誓，永世不相忘。”抗战时期的庐山亦曾经历烽火磨难，见证国共两党同仇敌忾。多少抗日志士将热血与怒火炼铸的文字镌刻于石，虽说否极泰来，时过境迁，却依然刚锐如新，灼热如昨。

  During the Chinese anti-Japanese War(1931-1945). Lushan also experienced the terrible war (1938-1939) and witnessed the two opposing parties (Chinese Communist Party and Nationalist Party) united and fought together against   Japanese aggression. The officials and soldiers’ oaths of protecting the motherland and fighting enemies remained in the stone.The oaths in the stone could still take people back to that period and remind them of those officials and soldiers who lost their lives during the war. Moreover, these also arouse people to cherish ordinary and peaceful daily life.

  Lushan Stone Carvings are the masterpieces that blend human and nature. It is the unique cultural language for this Sacred Mountain. A few words include abundant meanings, with apperception of life, achievement of meditation, the famous poems and essays, as well as the records of history, the masterpieces of calligraphy and the essence of carvings. You will understand the uniqueness and elegance of the calligraphy in the stone carvings by viewing. Additionally, you can feel the history vividly by understanding the words in the stone. Lushan stone carvings are just like an inverted image in a lake and also a mirror from the bottom of your heart,so it is highly recommended that you experience it in person.
